Dressing for the Occasion

While throwing on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt is nice and easy, this combination won’t work for a whole host of situations. Thus, you’ll need to think carefully about what to wear so you can dress suitably for whatever occasion you’re attending. For the less fashion-conscious among us, this can lead to some confusion especially when jargon such as ‘smart casual’, ‘cocktail dresses’ and ‘waterproof leggings’ get thrown about without much thought. Read on to find out precisely what you need to think about to choose the right outfit no matter what is happening.

Consider the Situation

We’ll start with the most obvious method: looking at what the occasion is and then fitting your clothes to that. For example, if you’ve been invited to a wedding, you’ll need to hire a tuxedo unless you’ve been otherwise specified not to. Likewise, if you’re going on a trek through the wilderness, you’ll need some hiking boots to take you to your destination and back again in comfort. Thus, the situation will dictate which outfits are suitable and which aren’t. Use some common sense and you’ll at least be able to narrow down your choices to a certain selection. This should help you avoid wearing running shoes to a funeral or taking your suit to the beach.

What Are Your Goals?

You can also hone down your choice of clothing by thinking about what you wish to achieve while out and about. For example, let’s say that you’re going on a first date. You’ll want to dress smart enough to impress without straying too far into the formal zone. On another occasion, you might be going for a job interview at a modern IT firm. If their dress code is fairly lax, you’ll want to put on some smart casual attire to show that you’ll fit in at the workplace. Finally, you might need to hike through the jungle. Here, you’ll need a store like Trekwear which sells a variety of waterproof gear that is comfortable and affordable. As you can see, the ultimate goal of the occasion will then at least hint at what the right clothes are for that scenario.

Look at the Weather

The conditions outside also determine which outfits you can wear and which you can’t. If temperatures are low, leave those flip flops and short-sleeved shirts at home. On the other hand, you should stick to lighter fabrics in the summertime. Whether you’re attending an outdoor wedding or walking through the forest, take a look at the weather forecast, noting aspects such as the temperature and likelihood of rain. After this, it is up to you to dress comfortably while still remaining true to the feel of the moment and your specific goals. Then, you can choose the waterproof jackets and collared shirts that fit the occasion perfectly. Just do some research on the outside conditions and you’ll gain a better idea about the ideal attire.

Where Are You Going?

Finally, think about your surroundings as this can also affect which clothes are most suitable. For example, whether you’re going on a date to a fancy restaurant or the cinema will determine which outfits should be worn. Likewise, hiking along a gravel forest trail will require different footwear than trekking along a riverbed. Take a look at where you’re planning on going and then think about the clothes that are most appropriate for that destination. Combine this factor with the three which are listed above and you should narrow down your wardrobe selection to a handful of outfits that are entirely proper for the particular occasion ahead.
