Which Shoes Best Suit Your Outfit?

Which Shoes Best Suit Your Outfit?

Although opinions on the subject differ, and due to the nature of fashion will probably differ significantly from this year to the next, fashion experts are usually of the mind that it’s better to choose a pair of shoes that complement your clothing rather than compete with it. What this means is patterned shoes with plain outfits and plain shoes with patterned outfits, however, plain with plain is fine – though in some cases might be just a touch too plain.

What to wear with jeans?
Jeans are very versatile items of clothing and as that’s the case you won’t find it difficult to match jeans with shoes – but what look are you after, moreover what style of jeans are you wearing? For straight leg jeans a variety of shoes look the part, and whilst some feel that white sneakers like Adidas, New Balance or Nike white sneakers look somewhat dorky, others feel just the opposite. Sandals work well with straight leg jeans, as do all varieties of boots, particularly Doctor Marten style boots. When wearing fitted jeans, white sneakers are out, sandals and boots are still great and high heels like stilettos can, and do, create an inherently stylish look – one every woman should try.

Shoes for skirts
Seeing that the point to wearing a short skirt is to show off your legs, you’re advised to select shoes that do just that – long boots also look great however, so there’s no set in stone rules to adhere to here.

Casual – If you’re going casual then flip flops and other varieties of flat sole sandals are an excellent choice, as are sneakers, though avoid puffy sneakers like cross trainers or basketball boots and opt for classics, like the Adidas and Nikes that many women have been sporting to great effect. A modern lightweight, streamlined sports shoe – perhaps with lots of colour though nothing garish – is also a great choice especially when worn with a denim skirt. Wedge sandals are also great though these should be worn as sandals so open toed rather than covered is the way to go for a chic bohemian look.

Going out – Knee length boots have long been a hit when wearing short skirts and although they don’t enable women to show off their legs as much as they’d like at times, they’re a great look that’s easy to wear to great effect. Calf high boots, like an eight-hole pair of Doctor Martens, also look great with skirts, once again particularly denim skirts, though women with skinny legs may find it difficult to pull this look off, though for women with strong calves – go for it!

Dinner and semi-formal – When dressing for dinner or semi-formal occasions, boots, flat sole shoes and everything that’s been discussed above is out – go for high heels. Kitten heels are fine however, plus they’re much easier and safer to wear when you’re having a few drinks out and don’t fancy your chances when tottering about. Stiletto heels – for many the sexiest shoes imaginable – are a popular choice, though if you feel uncomfortable wearing them chances are you look uncomfortable wearing them and that’s far from a classy look.

Dressing down – Seriously casual

There are times when we just feel like dressing down and when that’s the case nothing can beat a comfy pair of slippers. When the word ‘slippers’ is mentioned many automatically think of their grandparents, though with the range of slippers currently in vogue, one look at what’s trending should assuage any fears the modern fashionista may have about this inherently comfortable style of footwear.
